After a decade of Pridefest success, Sault Pride resolved to host more events throughout the year. In December, we are spurred to action by one of the unfortunate realities we see around us. For most of us, this is “the most wonderful time of the year”, a time for building memories with a loving family, but too many members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community either don’t have a family to go home to or aren’t accepted as they are when they get there. For most of the year this may not cause us substantial grief, but during the holidays, it becomes so much harder.

That is why we are hosting Sault Pride’s second annual Rainbow Family Holiday Dinner. For those who cannot go home for the holidays or whose families are not accepting, we will provide an evening of joyful relaxation with a supportive found family. We will host the dinner at the Machine Shop, where we will be enjoying a holiday-inspired menu with tossed salad, roast turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing, vegetables, and dessert.

We will offer this meal free of cost to our community members, as we do not want price to be a prohibiting factor for people who would like to join us. Statistically, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals are far more likely to live in poverty than others. That is why we are seeking sponsors: so that you can help us bring a bit of holiday cheer to those who really need it this time of year.

The importance of offering  potentially isolated 2SLGBTQIA+ community members a sense of belonging during the holidays cannot be overstated.
