We bring people together from Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma District’s 2SLGBTQIA+ population and allies to celebrate and to take action when necessary. We nurture relationships not only within the Queer community, but also with all levels of government, community agencies, major employers, educational institutions, and Pride organizations across the province in order to build webs of safety.
Sault Pride envisions Sault Ste Marie as a vibrantly diverse, empowering, and welcoming city which is both a home and a destination for people of all sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions
In 2023, a new chair and team brought the opportunity for a new direction. We solicited feedback through surveys at all of our Pridefest events and examined the responses. Unsurprisingly, the broader community’s priorities mirrored those brought forth by our volunteers: formal incorporation, a larger and more diverse leadership team, and a set of policies and procedures. We are pleased to publish here the first completed iteration of our policy and procedure manual, created in consultation with NORDIK (Northern Ontario Research, Development, Ideas and Knowledge).
Every July, Sault Pride works with many valued community partners to mount a weeklong festival for the Rainbow community to come together, celebrate how far we’ve come, and talk about the steps we still need to take to ensure full equality and safety. We are forever grateful to our beautiful hometown for its support!
We have a collection of resources related to LGBTQIA+ and health information.
